H-Town Just Turned One-Hundred Eighty: Come Celebrate with Us
Snap a selfie with Sam Houston and chow down on birthday cake, because H-town just turned 180 and she’s looking pretty good. The Heritage Society is hosting a two-hour “birthday party for the anniversary” at Sam Houston Park with free museum exhibits, live music and notable guests.
“Councilmember [Robert] Gallegos and other dignitaries will be there to give remarks, sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and hand out birthday cake on the 28th,” says Carol Watson, development director of the Heritage Society. “Then on the 30th, he will be presenting a proclamation to city council commemorating the city’s 180th birthday. The city needs to be supported and promoted, and the residents, whether they are native Houstonians or moved here, we all need to celebrate the birthday of our great, beautiful city.”
The Bayou City celebration features activities for children, including face painting, plus cake, bottled water and refreshments. The Celtaire String Band is performing music styled from the 1830s and 1840s in honor of this historic milestone. “The band is very interactive with children and families, and they have different instruments that they let the kids play. We are also doing some tours of our historic building,” says Watson.
We look forward to seeing you. Step outside of our welcoming and comfortable community at Holly View Apartments in Houston, Texas for the day! This event is coming to town on Sunday, and it promises to be a wonderful time!
